    Book details

The poor boy who made his fortune . . . not just once but twice.

Little Jeff Pearce grew up in a post-war Liverpool slum. His father lived the life of an affluent gentleman whilst his mother was forced to steal bread to feed her starving children. Life was tough and from the moment Jeff could walk he learned to go door to door, begging rags from the rich, which he sold down the markets. Leaving school at the age of fourteen, he embarked on an extraordinary journey, and found himself, before the age of thirty, a millionaire.

Then, after a cruel twist of fate left him penniless, he, his wife and children were forced out of their beautiful home.

With nothing but holes in his pockets, Jeff had no alternative but to go back down the markets and start all over again. Did he still have what it took? Could he really get back everything he had lost?

A Pocketful of Holes and Dreams is the heartwarming true story of a little boy who had nothing but gained everything and proof that, sometimes, rags can be turned into riches . . .

I received the book on Tuesday, and by Thursday I had finished it- I was hooked! I am not much of a reader, but this book came highly recommended from a friend and so I thought I would give it a go. I am certainly glad I did!You get to follow Jeffs inspiring and remarkable story from when he was a young boy growing up in impoverished surroundings in 1950s Liverpool, to him working his way to becoming a multi millionaire, with all the trappings. I think that because you know get to know Jeff as a young boy you really get to care about how his life turns out, and that spurns you on to read the next page. Each Chapter is jam packed with anecdotes, some that will make you laugh out loud, and some that will move you. It is so descriptive that you really feel like you are there with him.It is rags to riches, back to rags, then back to riches story full of twists and turns, that keep you interested and wanting more!

Firstly, this book is simply an unforgettable read, an incredible story of the rise, fall, and meteoric rise again of a straight talking lad from the back streets of Liverpool. It details the trials and tribulations of a guy who, although seriously handicapped with the inability to read or write and born into real poverty, reaches the very top of his profession not once, but twice. Jeff Pearce shows how, with boundless energy, unshakeable self belief, and an unbelievable level of determination, anything is possible. His life story is a breathless journey of extraordinary achievements, phenomenal financial success (and failure), mind boggling experiences, all based on an insatiable desire to succeed. With the unconditional support of the two women in his life, Jeff takes on, and overcomes, challenges mere mortals would fear to tread. This book tells this amazing story. Don,t miss the opportunity to read it as, in all probability, it will change your life!!!

Wow! What can I say?! To put it simply, what a great book! I am a 24 year old lad that hasnt read a book in a long, long time indeed, due to losing interest by the time i've finished the book. However this book was completely different in the way I couldnt put it down! I must say it was so interesting to observe Jeff's life from a young boy in a post war liverpool slum and his journey through life to becoming a millionaire losing it all and personaly my favourite bit...getting it back! This book touches on every aspect of life and personally found it educational, emotional, funny and leaves you with a great sense of passion to succeed!

Worth a penny which I paid for it. The first half is quite good but nothing different from every other poor person in 50s Liverpool. At least Jeff wrote it down so it could be useful in the future historically. Not sure of the point of the book millions of people have made it in business from poor beginings. I guess the big thing is that he was illiterate but that is also fairly common. I thought Jeff was too harsh on his dad as all of us kids had to sit outside the pub with a bag of crisps and a coke back in the day and his charm is what has made Jeff a good talker it seems?Should have told the Polo snobs to shove it on day one instead of ingratiating himself with them. Jeff says he can now read how is that possible? I thought dislexia was a condition otherwise why did he not just apply himself in the same way as a kid.

Inspirational tale of hard work and determination that took a young lad from the slums of Liverpool to millionaire status. Incredible considering that Jeff Pearce could barely read or write . A story that emphasizes the ups and downs of life and a determined effort to fight back when things get tough showed courage. It tells the story of a devoted family man who made it big in the world of independent fashion retail . A very readable book throughout .

What a brilliant story. It was funny and very sad in parts but knowing that it is a true story made it even better. One of the best books I have read for a very long time and am positive that your mum was watching over you and your lovely family and still is. Once again thank you for sharing your wonderful life and may you carry on with more wonderful stories to tell.
